With colleagues and students he has been developing scalable methods for working with under-resourced languages in indigenous communities. He has an ongoing appointment in the Department of Computing and Information Systems at the University of Melbourne. In 2009, Steven served as President of the Association for Computational Linguistics.

Ewan Klein is Professor of Language Technology in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh. He completed a PhD on formal semantics at the University of Cambridge in 1978.
